Last night I received a call from my younger brother, Brant at 11:15 pm. The first thing that came out of his mouth was, "Raquel, there is a guy who is dead in our front yard." This is what happened: A young man (don't know his name or exact age-maybe in his 20's) was running from the cops and turned off of greenback onto my parents street. He was going about 100 mph. A woman was at the stop sign in front of my parents house making a right turn onto the same street the motorcyclist was headed down. The cyclist came over the hill, ran the stop sign, hit the woman in a van, flew into the telephone poll at the edge of my parents yard, and rolled into their side driveway. My Mom who had just gone to bed heard the crash and the police sirens (they were close behind the cyclist). She came running out and only saw the cops and the woman in the van. She then saw the cop on the side driveway and the cyclist motionless. The cops were there until after 1:30 cleaning up the insides that were on my parents driveway. My Mom, brothers, neighbors and especially the driver of the mini-van were all very shooken up.
Brants story was a little more embellished and more detailed. He also said the cyclist was drunk, which my Mom told me this morning that nobody knew if that was true or not. Supposedly he had a couple of DUI's, no license and did not have a car because he would have to blow into a breathalizer to start it. Such a sad sad story.
Needless to say this story does not help Marc's desire to someday own a motorcycle. Sorry if you are all in a wierd and somber mood now.

i like the picture you put with the story. Also, sad story...
thats ultra depressing.
Oh. My. Gosh. What a crazy story! Very sad. It must have been so weird for your family. Wow, I don't even know what else to say.
My uncle was killed in a motorcyle accident (it was his fault as well, but not quite like this story). My mom is SO against motorcycles. Brian (my brother) got one last summer and everyday my mom would email him a motorcycle statistic. She also sent him a 'for sale' sign in the mail. After talking to his brother-in-law one day (who had broken down into tears because his wife had been killed a few months earlier in a car accident, leaving him to raise three boys under the age of 5), Brian decided to sell his bike.
Sorry Marc, if that worsens your chances of getting a bike. I'm not a big fan myself...some things, as fun as they are, are not always worth the risk in my opinion. And we need more Cosette's in the world and would hate to risk that one! :o)
